Meet the Team: Tom Maloney

3rd April 2024

This month in our Meet the Team series, we feature Tom Maloney, our Junior Account Manager at CleanCloud! Tom is not just passionate about his role; he thrives on connecting with new customers, a key aspect of his job that he absolutely loves. We spoke to Tom about his background, exploring his international upbringing, his academic journey at University in Birmingham, and his six-week trek across Europe.

Get to know Tom beyond the office as he shares his mixed taste in music, his excitement for upcoming music festivals, and even a peek into his laundry habits – just how good is he at keeping his clothes clean?

Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background?

During my childhood I spent 10 years growing up in Bangladesh, Nigeria and Thailand. After that, we moved back to the UK, where I studied Criminal Psychology at University in Birmingham. While studying and even after graduating, I worked as a stock controller for a company distributing alcohol to lots of pubs, clubs, and bars in London. I then took a 6-week trip around Europe. Travelling is one of my favourite things to do and it gives me a chance to immerse in lots of different cultures.

Q. How long have you been with CleanCloud and what do you enjoy most about your role?

I started working for CleanCloud as a Sales Development Representative (SDR) in April 2023 and then moved to an Account Manager role by the end of October last year, with a special focus on CleanCloud Payroll. I genuinely enjoy speaking with our existing customers and hearing about their experiences with CleanCloud, but I also equally enjoy speaking to those who need some additional guidance for their accounts. We have so many different features so it’s a great opportunity to tell our customers all the tools they have at their fingertips.

Q. What has been your proudest achievement since joining CleanCloud?

The day I became an Account Manager was a highlight for me. This role has allowed me to broaden my skills beyond what I knew before by developing new strategies which help me to offer the best value to our customers, considering their locations and needs. Now the team is growing even further, we're building strong, working relationships with our customers which is a huge bonus.

Q. What is your top CleanCloud feature?

I’m a big fan of our embedded payroll service, CleanCloud Payroll which is designed for our US customers. It allows them to process payroll in under five minutes which significantly eases the payroll stress. For customers outside the US, we've made it just as easy with a manual payroll setup. This allows staff to clock in and out, with the system automatically calculating their daily working hours. It is so simple!

A second feature I like is being able to apply discounts to commercial accounts, which is great for those running a business from a B2B perspective. Customers can apply bulk discounts, helping them to maintain and grow their client relationships. For example, this feature can work for someone simply dropping off a suit at a hotel, or large-scale operations, such as a commercial client handling thousands of pounds of linen.

Q. What is your go-to office snack?

I’m not much of a snacker, but every morning, you'll spot me with a piece of fruit and a pastry in hand. Usually, I stick to tea and coffee, but if there are sweet treats around, It’s hard to resist!

Q. What type of music or podcasts do you most enjoy listening to?

I love music! Given the chance, I'll mix it up with everything from country & western to Australian surfer rock, reggae, and definitely some 80s hits. However, I am often kicked off of the speakers since the Sales team prefers a more tropical house style of music.

I believe any true music fan is not defined by one genre!

Q. Be honest, how good are you with your laundry routine?

I am fairly relaxed about my laundry situation, hence I wouldn’t call it a routine. When the basket is full I’ll put a load on, or alternatively when I realise I need a shirt for a certain occasion I’ll panic and stick an emergency wash on.

Q. What is next on your bucket list?

South America is next on my travel bucket list. Having grown up overseas, I love to always be on the move. I've never visited South America before and I’ve heard it's incredible, with amazing people too.

This year is also packed with festivals for me. I'm looking forward to seeing Swim Deep in June, an indie band from Birmingham, as well as Still Corners and a band called Lime Cordiale.
