Jeff Moak: Leaving pen and paper behind

Jeff Moak, is a serial entrepreneur whose roots in the laundry industry trace back to his teenage years, where he worked in his grandfather’s laundromat during the holidays, fixing coin slides and getting familiar with the workings of a laundromat.

In 2003, Jeff took over the family business, running it alongside other pursuits. In that time he has grown the business from one traditional coin-operated, pen & paper store into two, modernised laundromats with pick up and delivery at the heart of its operations. Read how Jeff is using tech to adapt and grow his laundromat business.

Jeff's Challenges

As Jeff's laundromat business began to expand, the traditional pen-and-paper method began to falter. One significant challenge he faced was managing pickups and deliveries.

“Using the pen-and-paper approach for managing pickups and deliveries proved to be inefficient. My team would have to manually note down each order, but these records often got lost, making it challenging to keep track of our orders.”

Jeff also faced challenges when it came to tracking customer preferences and handling invoicing, which led him to research available software options. He wanted to avoid outdated and inflexible systems, focusing on software that offered regular updates and robust customer support. One of the solutions he explored was CleanCloud. Unlike other platforms that primarily focused on pickup and delivery, CleanCloud offered a versatile system.

“I noticed that CleanCloud had a wide range of features to support various aspects of my business, including in-store operations, pickup and delivery, and services like wash, dry, and fold.”

Jeff started using CleanCloud in early 2020, testing it out in one store before rolling it out to his second store in Ajax, Ontario.

The Solution: A specialised pos

From day one he found managing the pick up and delivery side of the business easier and witnessed remarkable growth since implementing CleanCloud into his operations. He created a specialised workflow to better manage orders, and crucially, he saved time on route planning and improved the efficiency of his drivers with the CleanCloud Driver app.

There were additional benefits too, thanks to CleanCloud’s invoicing tool Jeff has managed to streamline his monthly invoicing. Where once upon a time he had to sort a month's worth of receipts by commercial and retail, manually record them, and then input the data online, he can now issue invoices at the click of a button, a small but significant change when it comes to managing his commercial orders.

But it’s not just tech features that set CleanCloud apart, for Jeff the personal touch that CleanCloud provides through its support teams, feedback sessions and Community groups were a big bonus.

“CleanCloud is constantly updating and improving with new features, but you also listen to our feedback which is a huge plus!”

As was the fact that CleanCloud worked with, and understood the needs, of businesses across the world ‘“As a Canadian, the fact that CleanCloud has a global approach was a big compelling feature for me! It means I have a platform that can support my businesses in Canada.”’

A lot of other software tends to focus on one core market

What’s next for Jeff and his business

Jeff has exciting plans on the horizon: he's planning to open a third Super Clean store in addition to a new pickup and delivery only service which will provide coverage in areas outside of the store locations. He's eagerly anticipating the launch of a branded app, developed by CleanCloud, which will provide customers with a streamlined and efficient way to place orders.

"Our third store will be located approximately an hour away from our current locations. I'm aiming for an area that lacks good laundry services but has customer demand. It's all about identifying that market gap!"

And will that store use CleanCloud?

"Of course I’ll be using CleanCloud. I always tell people in the industry that CleanCloud does everything well at a price point that makes it impossible to say no. It’s not just about keeping things straight or solving issues with tracking; it’s about growing with a system that supports you

Even if you’re a small business, there’s enough room to grow with CleanCloud and they’ll be there to support you.”
